Starting December 1, 2018 we will only be open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month through the end of March.  Starting April 6, 2019 we will be open every Saturday except holidays.

Please note that the landfill closes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. If in doubt, please contact us or check our calendar to be certain we are open.


Board Meetings

Regular Landfill Board of Directors Meetings are held at the Landfill office located at 3200 Chamberlain Rd, Buchanan, MI. Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM (refer to schedule below).

Position: Environmental Coordinator    Employment Status: Full Time

The Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority (SEBCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Environmental Coordinator. The SEBCLA is in search of a dedicated and hardworking individual with the ability to use good judgment and to communicate efficiently.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the General Manager, coordinates all local, state and federal environmental compliance and sampling mandates.  Responsible for maintenance of all equipment used in the recycling functions of the landfill including gas collection and control system, Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR), and Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assures the Landfill is in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental standards for a Type II sanitary landfill.  Participates in collection and testing of a variety of samples.  Operates and maintains environmental equipment and trouble shoots all environmental problems.  Maintains records of all tests in gas collections, well sampling, water and air quality.  Keeps abreast of developments in environmental protection.  Participates in safety training, adheres to all safety policies and regulations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Needs all skills, abilities, and desired qualifications necessary to preform the essential functions of the position.  Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree.  A valid vehicle operator’s license.  Skilled in maintaining, assembling, and analyzing data and preforming comprehensive and accurate reports.  Skilled in effectively communicating ideas.  Skilled in us of office equipment including computers and related software.  Ability to establish effective working relationship.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are those and employee encounters while preforming the essential functions of the job.  Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle and feel and to be able to reach with hands and arms.  The employee might be required to stand walk and stoop in uneven areas.  The employee must occasionally lift and / or move items of light to moderate weight and to travel to other locations.
